I finally got a chance to read through the "ECA moving to Rewardical" announcement piece by piece, and this paragraph spoke to me:
"Amazon has become a multi-multi-billion dollar behemoth over the past few years, completely outgunning even major, major players like Walmart. The "800 lb. gorilla" that is Amazon has clearly established an unprecedented and virtually impenetrable position (props to them for what they've accomplished, by the way). And what's even scarier is that they're just getting started! Now, to be clear, we can still do big things in the e-commerce space (such as what we plan to do with Rewardicals), but we have to accept the reality that we're just not going to beat Amazon by "trying to be another Amazon." We MUST take a different tact...and that's exactly what we are going to do."
That paragraph is the reason why Gery remains at the top of his game in the internet world. We would be wise to follow his example and adjust our thinking. Instead of feeling like a victim because our ECA stores have been "shut down," we should take this opportunity to move into an exciting new chapter in our lives. For those who already have their own stores, this is a great change because you no longer have to run two storefronts, and you have a great new search engine for a lower cost that can give you more business!
For those of us who used the TripleClicks storefront as our main place for listing products, this is our opportunity to evaluate our "Digital front porch" and create a better looking, more professional store that can attract far more customers than ever before. Along with that, we will have the full force of the Rewardical program with less expense which means more money in our pockets!
Of course, this also means that we have to find our own resources for listing our products, but there are plenty of great places to do this, and Gery provided a few in the announcement to help us start thinking about where to go. As for me, I have my own web hosting resource that I plan to use for my wife's handmade crafts, and this excites me because I am going to learn some great "Tricks of the trade" that will help me become more effective in website management!
There is a popular saying that goes like this: "If you stop learning, you stop living."
While the announcement can be discouraging for many ECAs, it is also a chance for all of us to learn new ways of conducting business online, and this comes with great potential! That being said, change can be painful, and learning something new does come with a price. This is why we have to keep our eyes on the prize and remember that the cost of inconvenience today can reap the benefit of being financially independent tomorrow!
